According to Wikipedia, a partnership is “an arrangement where parties agree to cooperate to advance their mutual interests.” Our vision for the NCS K4 STEMLAB could not become reality for the children of Northfield without help from the partners featured on this page. Some are community organizations, some are individuals, some are corporations, but all are vital to our effort, and we thank them for their support. Our mutual interests can be summed up by this site’s tagline:

Fueling students’ love of learning through Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (S.T.E.M.) at Northfield Elementary School.

We are thrilled to announce a partnership for the 2012-13 school year between Classlink and NCS. Starting in September, K4STEMLAB students will be utilizing the Classlink Launchpad service to, among other things, access existing NCS infrastructure including personal network files, network shares, legacy Windows applications, and even printers. This service allows students to access these resources from any device with an Internet connection, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We can’t wait to see what our students do with this service. Thank you, Classlink!

Raytheon Company provided a $3,000 scholarship for Mr. Jarrett to learn about the Engineering is Elementary program at a workshop called “Everyone Engineers,” an intensive two-day professional development event at the Museum of Science in Boston. These monies will be used for workshop tuition, travel expenses, and classroom materials. He will be attending in August, 2012.

The Northfield Community School PTO is an *AMAZING* group of dedicated, creative, hard-working parents and community leaders that work tirelessly to fundraise in support of our entire school district, our teachers, staff and therefore our students. Their constant and extremely popular fundraisers make it easy for local residents to provide monetary assistance throughout the school year. Specific to the K4STEMLAB, the NCS PTO has provided funding for a SMART Document Camera (for a quick demonstration of what this tool can do, watch this video) and a variety of plastic storage containers that will help us stay organized.

TTT logoThis innovative interior design consultancy, through Christian Long, Vice President, has offered the NCS K4STEMLAB thoughtful advice, counsel and a copy of their groundbreaking book, The Third Teacher. We sense this is the beginning of a powerful collaboration and look forward to working with them more in the future. To learn more about the firm, its people, and its design philosophy, watch the video on this page. We encourage you to consider this firm when faced with a design challenge at your school.

Techsmith’s Camtasia Studio is the official screen capture / flipped lesson recording environment for the NCS K4STEMLAB. Version 8, announced in June 2012, has many new features and all the production capabilities we could ever need. This includes importing from external devices/recordings, content animation, and support for interactive elements (quizzes & more!) Techsmith is providing me (not NCS) a free personal copy of Camtasia Studio 8 because I am a Google Certified Teacher. I’m happy to include them here on our partner page as a result.

…more to come!
